La série de photographies Les cabanes de nos grands-parents nous entraîne à la rencontre des Anciens à travers le monde, de la France au Vanuatu en passant par lInde, le Brésil, le Maroc ou encore la Nouvelle-Zélande et la Suède. Depuis cinq ans, Nicolas Henry a réalisé quatre cents portraits dans une trentaine de pays. Pour chacun, avec les objectifs familiers de la personne photographiée, une cabane, un abri éphémère, a été construit, reflet de son histoire, de son imaginaire : un poisson-hélicoptère lors dune pêche à larc miraculeuse au Vanuatu ; un gratte-ciel refait avec des bouts de rien dans un campement ouvrier à Shanghai ; les feuilles jaunes de larbre africain dune mama, accrochées à larbuste de son jardin français En écho à la photo, chacun raconte et se raconte, et nous dévoile un pan de son univers. Le projet est né dun constat : notre monde est aujourdhui dominé par l'image de la jeunesse, et celle d'une réussite sociale formatée. Quelle est la place des personnes âgées dans notre société où la transmission de la langue, des histoires et des traditions ainsi que la connaissance de la nature et de la biodiversité sont supplantées par les médias et les systèmes déducation ? Le vieillissement de la génération du baby-boom se traduit davantage en considérations économiques et préoccupations sociales, et laisse peu de champ à un débat humaniste. Le dossier sur lavenir de nos retraites, leur poids sur la sécurité sociale, la solitude et la détresse, que les campagnes de sensibilisation narrivent pas à endiguer, sont les images habituelles présentes dans nos médias.Le projet des cabanes de nos grands-parents part du désir de reconstruire un lien positif avec les Anciens. La série a démarré sur lidée dun répertoire dobjets agencés de manière décalée ou narrative, comme létat des lieux dun monde aux objets multipliés. Lenjeu du projet sest rapproché au fil du temps de celui dun théâtre itinérant. Les installations sont de plus grand format et souvent réalisées en extérieur avec laide dune partie du village ou du quartier. Elles deviennent alors des événements symboliques reflétant limaginaire collectif qui détermine le vocabulaire dune représentation qui va se jouer le soir même.
